      <image:title>Bio - From Zero to Hero</image:title>
<image:caption>Growing up in sunny Southern California, Micky Munns did not discover his passion for sailing until age 14. After joining his high school team, Munns fell in love with the sport, setting his sights on sailing success. A local phenomenon, Munns placed near the top of his fleet in every event he competed in. Through hard work and relentless drive, he won the Junior Olympic championship after just two years of training. As a high school junior, he began his transition to higher levels of competition. His campaign for the International 420 (I-420) World Championship was a fruitful one, with Munns placing sixth in his fleet. Over the next three years, he competed at or near the top of the national and international 420 fleets. Munns continued to campaign in the 420 even while moving across the country to study and compete at Boston University. He placed well in both I-420 and college sailing regattas. Although his Spring season was cut short due to COVID-19, Munns continued to train for a third and final world championship. That summer, Munns turned his energies to nurturing the next generation of sailors. Working in New Jersey, he led a four-boat team of new and experienced 420 sailors to podium finishes at every interclub regatta they competed in. Through his passion and hands-on approach, Munns showed his sailors the fruits of their labors, instilling a love of competition and preparation in them. When the 2020 I-420 Worlds were cancelled, Munns decided it was time to take his sailing to the next level. He launched his 470 Olympic campaign in earnest in October and expanded his coaching program. He now conducts clinics and coaches regattas, making high-level knowledge accessible to young sailors. Working with determined athletes, he hopes to be the mentor he longed for when he began his career.</image:caption>

He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. <image:title>Coaching - The Difference</image:title>
<image:caption>I know what it takes to go from almost no experience in sailboats to competing against the best in the world. I am a recent competitor and know exactly how to win in today’s competitive environment. I have worked with the best coaches in the world and wish that more kids had access to the knowledge and environment afforded by these top coaches. Introducing young sailors to this atmosphere is utterly transformative. Most youth athletes have not experienced the professionalism of high-level junior sailing and are in awe of how quickly they progress. Not only do they become much better sailors, but the athletes I coach learn the value of hard work and preparation. The program also kindles their passion for the sport, which helps kids to enjoy and continue sailing for life. I go above and beyond for my athletes. First, we meet to learn how to set goals and find sticking points to work on through training and competition. I then build a personalized program to help my team progress. We work heavily with video, helping sailors to see their sticking points up close. I dedicate as much time as my sailors to helping them because that’s what I expect as an athlete. I believe that any sailor can succeed if they are passionate and love the sport. My job is to help athletes achieve their goals, whatever those goals are. No matter their skill level, if they love sailing and apply themselves, they can progress and have fun doing it. We do not focus on finishes; we focus on becoming 1% better every day, every race. As sailors, we are always growing. I could not be more excited to be a part of that journey.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My goal is to win the gold medal medal for the United States at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris in 2024. While this is a tremendous physical, financial, and mental challenge, it has been my dream since I was young. I have the work ethic, determination, and drive to make it happen.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Olympic 470 - The Boat</image:title>
<image:caption>I choose to compete in the mixed two-person dinghy: the 470. Popular worldwide, the 470 is a dynamic and challenging boat to sail. It has been Olympic equipment since 1976 and the US has had plenty of success in the class since. The 470 moving to mixed-gender equipment presents an opportunity for younger athletes such as myself.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Olympic 470 - What we Need</image:title>
<image:caption>The journey to the Olympics is a long one, and I can’t do it alone. I have both boats and an amazing crew, but I must fully commit to this journey soon. My priorities are Quality training time/hours on the water Financing my own sailing through coaching Making connections with potential donors I will also be accepting donations soon. By spring 2022, I will need to begin competing in higher-profile regattas. As the campaign grows, expenses will too. Your support, in any form, is both appreciated and necessary.</image:caption>
